Celebrate 20 Years With Us!!

CELEBRATE 20 YEARS WITH US!!

It took many years of marathon fundraising, hundreds of hours of donated labor, and thousands of dollars in contributions from faithful supporters to make a community’s dream become a reality.   On Dec. 21, 2002 the “old” Mill Pond Public Library, located at the end of Doc Meyer’s Park, closed its doors.  Everything was unplugged, boxes were packed, and shelves were emptied.  The day after Christmas volunteers arrived at 9am to begin the move.  Things went very smoothly until the 3 largest shelves were moved.  They came out of the old building but were an inch too tall to fit into the new one.  After much debate a saw was found and an inch was cut off the large base on each shelf and the move continued.   Everything was finally moved, the old building was vacuumed, and the doors were locked for the final time.

Plans then began for the Open House that would be held on Jan. 1, 2003.  Over 300 people came to view the new library and enjoy refreshments.  Of great interest was the tin ceiling which had been meticulously restored and was a marvel to behold.  Much more space, plumbing, and a meeting room were things that were not present in the old library.  And here we are today, 20 years later in the “new” library building.  Won’t you come help us celebrate this milestone anniversary?  And what better day to do that then on Valentine’s Day.  So join us, on Tuesday, Feb. 14th from 1pm to 6pm and enjoy a slice of cake celebrating our community’s dream come true!
