8/10/20 We Are Collecting School Supplies!

Many families are struggling. With high unemployment, and millions of students enrolled in the free and reduced meal programs, many parents are unable to provide the basic school supplies their children need to be effective. You can help children in school by giving them the tools they need to succeed.  During the month of August we will be collecting school supplies which will be donated to the Markesan School District.  In the past supplies were collected each year by the Businessman’s Association, but that group has dissolved.  The library board decided it was a tradition that should be continued.  Supplies can be dropped off any time the library is open between now and Aug. 29th.  Here are some things needed from this years school supply list: pencils, highlighters, scissors, pencil box or bag, glue sticks, large eraser, wide ruled notebooks (SPIRAL ONLY) (green, blue, red, yellow, choice), bottom pocket folders (green, blue, red, yellow, choice), container of disinfecting wipes, low odor dry erase markers, Post It Notes (2 7/8 X 2 7/8 inches), marker board erasers, colored pencils, washable markers 8-12 ct., box of crayons (24), large boxes of Kleenex, and boxes of quart Ziploc bags.

7/21/20 Summer Reading Program

Our summer reading program, “Can’t Stop Summer Fun” is going strong this year.   We had 43 take part in the fun the first week.  The book was "Elephants Guide to Hide and Seek" by Kjersten Hayes.  The story told us that elephants are great at many things...playing hide-and-seek is not one of them. The book offers sympathy, support and superior hiding solutions to elephants who long to overcome their size disadvantage when playing hide-and-seek. Children had to "seek" their treat after the story, and you can see in the picture above, how happy two little girls were when they found the M&M's.  Our main goal behind the program is to keep children reading while they are on summer break and the first week they logged 4 hours and 20 minutes of reading time.  Thanks to a donation from the Edna Erna Pugh Trust, each child who completes their reading for all 4 weeks of the program, will win a drawstring tote bag filled with lots of fun school supplies.
